Welcome, on this page I'm going to provide information on how to connect your WebTV box (or the viewer) to the internet using the WebTV Server EMU. The EMU was created by a user known as eMac back in 2001. Unfortunately it was never used much as back then all the "hackers" were to busy hacking into WebTV's servers using the Viewer and there wasn't much need for a EMU at that time, so it kinda slipped through the cracks. It was only ever released to a handful of people as back then tools like these were kept tight-lipped. It's a great tool, alot can be learned and can allow you to have some fun with your old WebTV once again. You can make your own personal server! So dust off that WebTV and lets get to work!
Current Versions Available
- WebTV Viewer Only Edition. This version includes only the files you need to connect to the EMU server with a WebTV Viewer. If you don't have a real WebTV you want this. See video below for how to connect.
- WebTV Box Normal Edition. This version includes everything you need to connect to the EMU server with an actual WebTV or the WebTV viewer. DreamPi for WebTV v2 is included (see video below for how to setup and use). "Should" work on all models of Webtv (classic, plus, etc.) depending on what client version you are running. See Notes: below for more information. This isn't 100% so all I can say is try for yourself. If your on a Dishplayer unit pretty sure your gonna want to install my custom build.

Must be used with my custom WebTV for DreamCast .gdi image (included). Watch the How To Video included in this package to see how to setup and connect. You can also use this with an actual Sega DreamCast if you have a device such as the GDemu (requires DreamPi for WebTV v2) can be downloaded from here. The WebTV viewer is not included in this package but can be download separate from here.
- WebTV Sega DreamCast Edition. This version includes only the files you need to connect to the EMU server with an actual Sega DreamCast console. Must be used with my custom WebTV for DreamCast .cdi image (burn to CD with DiscJuggler). Also comes with Viewer and DreamPi for WebTV v2. If you have a GDemu you can download the gdi image here.
Notes:
- Older builds/clients do not like to work with the EMU (my custom builds being the exception) as they ask for wtv-1800:/preregister? the EMU does not like the ? this could be fixed in the EMU coding? Haven't done much testing but anything below client version 2.5 may not work. Client version 2.6 and above should be fine. Use power off code 411 to see witch version your running.
- The EMU was created and released by eMac back in 2001 to only a handful of people. First release to the public wasn't until Sept of 2019, released by me (MattMan) with eMacs blessings. All of eMacs original code has been left intact. My goal was to first create a launch application for the EMU and everything else. Next was to add a the WebTV splash screen, a mock home page, a couple services like tricks and to also allow one to access the internet. Goal achieved! So now you can get that nostalgic feeling once again when connecting. But so much more can be done with this EMU. The idea behind releasing this was to allow people to use there WebTV once again and to get this in the hands of knowledgeable users who would find it interesting and possibly build upon it! If you decide to build upon this EMU please leave all credits to the original author/s intact. Some people think if they change one line of code they can claim things as there own, please have respect. Thank You.

WARNING - If your going to install the custom build that will easily allow you to connect to the WebTV server EMU please make sure you unplug your WebTV every time you remove or plug your hard drive in. This is important! It doesn't always happen but I have popped a few fuses on my plus units by forgetting to do this. You can repair it but it's a pain in the ass repairing those mini fuses on the board!

To run the EMU you need to install perl on your machine. I have included two versions in the packages above and tested both on Win XP, Win 7, and Win 10 both 32 and 64 if for some reason your having trouble try https://www.activestate.com

Sometimes your box might give you trouble connecting so maybe you need to wipe out your tellyscript if your connecting to different servers. Power off your box, wait for the lights to stop blinking, and then hit options 3x on your keyboard, then enter in the numbers 32768 or try 7265, 7264, 1776. Other issues might be with the DreamPi image or the iptables. I could only connect using connectsetup so something got currupt and had to do a fresh install of DreamPi. I would recommend that if you are not using my custom build witch gives you access to connect setup that you only connect to one server otherwise you could encounter these issues.
