Hello everyone,

16262 is on its way to you today. This is part 1 of the 2.8.1 trial. You will remain on 16262 until late July, when we begin 2.8.1 part 2. Of course this could change if new crashing bugs or other major defects are discovered in 16262.

Part 1 contains the following:

  • Crashing bug fixes: Using the crashlogs that I've mentioned before, we've identified a number of top crashing bugs and fixed them.
  • Fixed memory leaks: A couple of memory leaks were identified and fixed. A memory leak will drain the limited memory that a box has until it crashes.
Part 2 contains the following:
  • Back end Messenger changes required by MSN.
Please accept the upgrade when prompted and begin work on the Standard Tests. As always, remember to connect to the service immediatley following a crash.

Thanks,
- Dave

Hello everyone,

It's time to get back to work! Beginning this week we will be testing a few changes to the service. This trial will only be for 1 week to make sure we didn't introduce any major bugs. Please click here or select the Service link from the sidebar to learn more. The new service version will be rolled out early Wednesday morning.

Beginning next week we will be testing some new software. This trial will be a bit different than previous trials. There will be 2 parts to the trial with the first starting next week on the evening of Sunday, June 8.

Part 1:

  • Crashing bug fixes: Using the crashlogs that I've mentioned before, we've identified a number of top crashing bugs and fixed them.
  • Fixed memory leaks: A couple of memory leaks were identified and fixed. A memory leak will drain the limited memory that a box has until it crashes.
Part 2:
  • Back end Messenger changes required by MSN.
Unfortunately the Messenger changes in Part 2 require changes to our service that will not be ready until mid/late summer. Because of this we have opted to do the 2 part trial to maximize the time you get to test.

I will notify you in the newsgroup when the build is going to be rolled out to you.

Thanks,
- Dave

Service Upgrade

Updated 05/30/03 10:30 AM PST

Roll Date: Scheduled for early morning on 6/04/03

Changes:

  • Hotmail bug fixes - Most of you are aware of the current problems encountered\ when trying to access http://www.hotmail.com. This release will fix these problems. Following are the scenarios you can expect to see:
    • Users without a WebTV passport: When this user attempts to access hotmail through the go to panel, homepage search bar, or msn.com they will go straight to the new MSN TV Hotmail sign-in page.
    • Users with a webtv passport, but not signed into passport: When this user attempts to access hotmail.com, they will be taken directly to the new MSN TV Hotmail sign-in page.
    • Users who are signed into their webtv passport: When these users attempt to access hotmail.com, they will get a passport error instructing them to enter their hotmail credentials to gain access to hotmail.com.
    • @hotmail.com or @msn.com users: These users wil be taken to the new MSN TV hotmail sign-in page with the log in information already entered. If they wish to access a different hotmail account, they will need to change the info.
    • Users signed into passport with a non-webtv or non-hotmail address: These users will be taken to a screen instructing them to sign out of passport and sign-in with their hotmail account credentials.

  • Surf Spot ads removed - You will no longer see the advertisement pages between web domains while surfing.

  • Connection Fix - There is currently an issue when connecting to the service using the bootrom which will cause the connection to some POPs to fail. This is more of an issue for FCS units as they upgrade from the bootrom. All other unit types have enough memory to load the new approm along with the old approm, then overwrite with the new after it has fully loaded - lc2 and DishPlayer users will recognize this process as the "Preparing update for use" sequence.

Please be sure to report any connection problems ASAP.
